Javea a working fishing Port

A picturesque working Fishing Port

The port of Javea also known as Aduanas del Mar is sheltered by the steep and high rocky outcrop which separates Javea from Denia a little further North up the coast.
The port is traditionally Spanish but with the striking new Church in the shape of a boat and steep cliffs of cabo San Antonio  rising at the side it is well worth a visit

If you are on holiday on the Costa Blanca Javea Port is one of those must visit destinations. You will most likely approach the port from the South side and a recommended walk is from the Arenal beach to the port.  As you approach you will see a roundabout and just past this the main promenade Avenida del Mediterraneo of the port area starts. This area refurbished after storm damage a few years ago and now is an ideal place to sit outside one of the restaurants or Tapas Bars which have tables ovelooking the seafront.  Here Here you can sea the breakers smashing up and cascading against the rocky outcrops along the front and smell the sealife in the spray
Walking a little further along the area widens out and you will find the Javea Tourist Office which will furnish you with all sorts of information about trips and places to go. Look up and you will see the boat shape of the Santa Maria de Loreto church built in 1962 which nestles between much older houses in the narrow streets leading back towards the cliffs and old town.
At night one or two of these streets will be found completely full of tables and chairs with people eating out and enjoying the warm evening air.
Walk a litte further and a couple along the waterfront and you will come to a couple of restaurants specialising mainly in seafood past which you will find the port itself sheltered against the cliffside. You will see fishing vessals of various sizes and often the nets are laid out for maintenace along the quayside.

Fishing Port

Walking back from the port you can cross over the road and investigate the streets leading up to the old town.

Cross here to investigate shops, streets and the church.

As you walk up these old streets which follow the typical Spanish pattern of residential apartments above shops, offices and restaurants look out for the cinema which has recently been refurbished and shows both English and Spanish Language films although the Englishones may not be the latest on release in the UK.
The cinema is however very nice and airconditioned inside so a pleasant way to spend one of your holiday evenings.

Depending on the time of day and if you are up for it you can walk up to the old town from this point or maybe stop at the El Blasson for some refreshment.
